Living in Las Vegas
79
We often read about the best cities for safety, for weather, for investment, and etcetera. Las Vegas doesn’t seem to fit into the best of anything during these times of economic crises. Unfortunately, we do seem do fall into some of the worst place categories, but there are still positive aspects to living here or owning a vacation home.
My wife and I bought here about two years ago, and we have no regrets about buying in Las Vegas. What’s not to like? You have access to the best entertainment in the world, luxurious shopping malls, and 24/7 opportunities to have a have a good time somewhere without time restrictions.
Well yes, I’m retired and have an income, which allows me to live a life style not hindered by unemployment worries. We're not big spenders, yet even though we’re frugal, we still have a great time.
Property values have fallen since we purchased our home, but it doesn’t concern me because we don’t plan on selling. We like life in Las Vegas— and there’s the catch. Eventually the economy will recover. When? I don’t have a clue!
Here’s my point. If you’re a person looking for a fun place to live, and you have some spare cash, Las Vegas offers an opportunity for you to buy a home at whatever social level you desire at an affordable price. Put enough money down to have your payment manageable and don’t plan to buy to make a profit. As I said, eventually, we will recover. Only then should you consider purchasing at a higher level. IN ADDITION, when the economy is back to normal, don’t go and refinance your house to buy a car or a boat. That’s one reason why so many people lost their houses in the first place. When one partner in a relationship lost their job, a couple could no longer pay the morgage. Don’t live beyond your means. Even the Joneses, who others tried to keep up with, lost their homes.
Conclusion
There are many houses in Las Vegas in foreclosure, but this offers an opportunity for people who have some available cash and want to make this city their permanent or part time residence. If you favor a place that has everything to see and do, Las Vegas is the city for you. Just remember to live smart to live well.

Las Vegas is a lot of fun! I have never lived in Vegas, but we have family that lived in the area for a while. Too funny that you grew up in Upstate New York and then moved out west - we did it backwards, it appears. I certainly miss the sunshine! I went to school at UC Irvine, so I lived in Costa Mesa for quite some time and frequented Newport Beach and the Back Bay. My grandmother used to live on Balboa Island, down the street from Shirley Temple. I wish I could get her to write for hubpages because she has some amazing stories to tell!
My husband and I had the pleasure of a trip to Vegas a few years back and we were surprised to see how much there is to do besides gambling. We truly had a great vacation catching the shows, shopping and dining. I enjoyed your hub and it looks like you have a handle on what living is all about.
I lived in Southern California for many years and whenever I went to Vegas I always noticed most of the cars had CA license plates. I guess Las Vegas was in many ways an (Adult Playground) for most people that come to town. It's refreshing to hear the point of view of someone who is not simply passing through.
I've been hearing for some time now how the real estate market has been affected in both Phoenix and Las Vegas. Vegas is a remarkable venue for not only fun 24/7, but as you say, it has the shopping, and it has great food, good shows, beautiful golf courses, and a lot of wow a lot of the time. That is the secret, "live smart to live well."
I lived there for 3 years. I just moved away this last summer because I have 2 small children and didn't want them growing up in a subculture of gambling among other things, but I have to say I do miss the weather, the buffets and all the cool casino and shops. Thanks for the great read.
I've never been, but it seems like an interesting place! I'll make it there one day! Voted this interesting, useful, and up!
Good writing for Las Vegas! It is an interesting place to visit, but I guess I'd miss all this rain in Oregon. Our economy was hit hard also. I guess we could say that for the US in general. UP!
I've never been, but I've heard it's beautiful. I'm sure it's very much like Miami Beach - people always think it's just about partying, but it's actually a pretty cool place to live in. Nice hub!
I have seen this beautiful place only in movies and serials.
Thanks for sharing this
Hi, I have always wanted to visit Las Vegas. Watching it on TV in England, it seems such a glamorous place, and all round entertainment, and of course the weather is so much better than little old England! Maybe I will get there one of these days. My brother is talking about a trip to America so fingers crossed we may just take a trip there, cheers nell

You sound like Lover Man and I...We live on the Jersey Shore and love it, and watch our spending, and still have fun. We also retired, and wound up buying a Condo in N. Palm Beach at a great price. Which through a Labor of Love, have finally made it us!
I look forward to Following your Hubs.
