Part 1

When traveling to Las Vegas, most all people want to see the strip. After all, it is like a Disneyland for adults. However, what do you do when you’ve seen it all, after the countless hours of walking and driving end to end on the strip? Maybe you’d like to kick back a little and enjoy gambling and shows where there is less traffic, plenty of parking, yet still carries an ambience of elegance.

As a resident of Las Vegas, my wife and I enjoy the atmosphere of one of our favorite places, The Red Rock Casino—it has it all without going to the strip. In addition, the Feast Buffet at the Red Rock is probably one the most reasonable places to eat, especially if you take time to get a free Club Card, which will earn you some additional bonuses. The Feast serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an increase in price to the respective three time choices.

Here’s an interesting tidbit of information. The Red Rock sends a statement of spending, earnings and losses to club members at the end of the year. Our total loss for one year was about two hundred dollars. It’s not a lot when you consider that we frequent the Red Rock about twice a week. With the live music and all the slots we played, it was cheap entertainment for one year.

Part 2 – Off-Strip Las Vegas Casinos

Another favorite among locals is the Suncoast Casino and Hotel. We spent New Year’s Eve seeing a show, which brought in 2012 with an enjoyable and affordable evening. You can easily find directions by going to their website. We are strictly slot or video poker players and my winnings for the night paid for the evening expenses.

About a block away, you can see the Rampart Casino, which is a place I particularlyenjoy for their lounge shows. You can sit at a bar or play at the slots, adjacent the showroom, and enjoy the entertainment. Remember to tip the servers at least one dollar for each complimentary drink and you will get good service at whatever casino you choose.

Part 3

Orleans

If you want to be closer to the strip, the Orleans is another good off strip casino. It is located approximately two miles west from Las Vegas Blvd. on W. Tropicana. The Orleans has a great lounge show and good drink services for players. The location of the lounge act allows you to enjoy the music while playing the machines. If you’re from out of town, it’s a reasonable full service Casino to stay, considering its proximity to the strip.
